The tower, built by Marcus Pemfflinger, dating from 1540, is in stone and brick walls and a platform on which guns were located. This was arranged in 1778, the first theater in the city by Martin Hochmeister printer.
At first there were only offered performances by children, but in 1787 Sibiu boasted a theater, before the city Prague, Graz and Budapest. Until 1788 the German theater has presented over 130 performances. Work uninterrupted for 171 years was terminated by a fire in 1949. Interestingly, as before '49 there was a fire in 1826, which was addressed very Hochmeister, but after '49 and during the events of 1989. In 2004 it was renovated and incorporated in the Thalia Hall.

Excavations revealed two channels, built of brick, which served probably one ditch to drain water from outside and another on communication between the defenders who are on both sides of the tower.
