Nicula Monastery is an important pilgrimage center in northern Transylvania, situated in Fizesu Gherlii, Cluj county. It is situated at 50 km to 18 km from Cluj and Dej. The church is built on 3 km from the highway Nicula - Gherla. Nicula Monastery is known because of the existence of miracle working icon of Our Lady.
Name Nicula monastery in this area is tied to a hermit Nicholas. First document the occurrence of the Hermitage, the wooden church dating from 1552 Nicula. In 1974 the place of worship burned through and was replaced with a church in the village brought top, built in 1770. Between 1875-1879 a new church was built in the wall dedicated to St. John the Baptist's birth. Recently, a third church was built, dedicated to the Assumption. "
This famous icon was painted in 1681 by master Luke of Iclod which according to a report prepared by Austrian officers had tears between February 15 and March 12 1699.
Nicula Monastery is the largest pilgrim place of the Orthodox patriarchy-in August 15 of each year the feast of the Assumption, over 300,000 pilgrims from all over the country come to Nicula Monastery.
