Completed in 1773, Roman Catholic Cathedral is ranked by experts as "the most representative baroque building of Timisoara. " Plane behind the erection of the building allegedly belonged to the famous Viennese architect Fischer von Erlach, no less famous son at the time, Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach.
In a document of the eighteenth century is reminiscent of placing the foundation stone of the Duomo in Timisoara and also, says that architecture and construction plan has been prepared by H. Joh. Schelblauer Jacob, Advisor to the City of Vienna.
Altars were carved by Johan Muller. The interior houses a beautiful organ stuil Louis XVI - century copy of the famous organ in the church of St. Paris Supplement.
Special items can be seen on the doors of oak and decorated with pure nickel grids. The interior decoration was attended by many famous artists, including Michael Angelo Unterberger (painter and director of the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts) - the main altar painting (1754), Viennese sculptor Joseph Johann Rössler - St. Charles Boromeus statues, of St. Theresa and a pair of cherubs which dominates the central part of the ornamentation of the altar, and Johann Schopf (1772) - decorating the side altars.
In this place to hold religious services in Hungarian, German and Romanian, and numerous concerts. It is considered the most important Baroque building of Timisoara and one of the most valuable existing in Banat region.
