Completed in 1773, Roman Catholic Cathedral is ranked by experts as "the most representative baroque building of Timisoara. " Plane behind the erection of the building allegedly belonged to the famous Viennese architect Fischer von Erlach, no less famous son at the time, Johann Bernhard Fischer von Erlach.

The interior decoration was attended by many famous artists, including Michael Angelo Unterberger (painter and director of the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts) - the main altar painting (1754), Viennese sculptor Joseph Johann Rössler - St. Charles Boromeus statues, of St. Theresa and a pair of cherubs which dominates the central part of the ornamentation of the altar, and Johann Schopf (1772) - decorating the side altars.
