Merry Cemetery is unique in the world by how it shows the human relationship with the ultimate destiny - death.
Here death is not viewed as a tragedy but as a point, a stage of life omului.In the cemetery (which was ranked first of funerary monuments in Europe and second in the world - after the Valley of the Kings) are dominated by the blue crosses (
Săpânţa so-called blue) and have submitted lyrics with some philosophical accents (devoid of spelling mistakes) that shows a caricature way, with good parts but especially those faults are buried here.Crosses may surprise some point in life and what lies buried in the place that it is often accompanied by elements of the universe or daily (animals, house, property acquired or object of) the characters are in motion (working in the fields, going to school
at war, working in the yard or house, women with children are the occasional hug.
Drawings and documents are made with a range of bright colors like red, green, yellow, black and blue in contrast to the predominantly white crosses created a lively atmosphere than that which we used to in a cemetery.Oak crosses carved and painted in this way have been made for the first time in 1936 by Ion Stan Patras and artisan tradition was continued by saying and Tincu Dumitru Pop, a master of apprentices.
Currently there are over 800 such crosses in the Merry Cemetery in Sapanta.
How it "joyful" in which people relate to death here annually attracts thousands of tourists from home and abroad.
